Seeing Xander Schauffele finish outside the top 25 in a PGA Tour event these days can be surprising. Same goes for his college days.

While at San Diego State in the mid-2010s, Schauffele was a mainstay in the Golfstat top-100 individual rankings. He entered the 2015 NCAA Division I Championship at No. 18 but could only manage T-45th at The Concession Golf Club with rounds of 73-75-73-76.

That was six years ago. A lot’s happened since then for the X Man.

Schauffele has won three times on the PGA Tour and is a top-10 player in the world.

He’s starving to get back in the winner’s circle again for the first time in over two years.

The 27-year-old Californian ranks 26th or better on the PGA Tour in every strokes gained category. Being a well-rounded player is obviously always important, but the ability to be a chameleon and play well on any course style is important for bettors and DFS players looking for a safe bet without course history to lean on.

A big reason Schauffele is leading the FedEx Cup is he’s first in total strokes gained (2.438). He owns three runner-up finishes in the 2020-21 season, including a pair of T-2nds on the West Coast swing at Torrey Pines and TPC Scottsdale.

He last teed it up a week ago at Riviera. Schauffele was never in the picture to win, but he was steady Eddie with scores of 71-69-71-69 for T-15th.

Schauffele extended his made cuts streak to 15 dating back to January 2020. The PGA Tour lists it at 22, but that appears to be incorrectly counting no-cut events. Either way, he’s got the longest active streak.
