2021 WGC-Workday Championship: Top 10 power rankings at The Concession
Daniel Berger is coming off a win on the West Coast. Now he gets to settle in at his home state of Florida for the next month.
Life’s good for Berger, whose win at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am was the 27-year-old’s fourth career PGA Tour victory and the most high profile of the four. He trailed Jordan Spieth on a crowded leaderboard through 54 holes and rose up with a closing 65 and the second of two eagles coming on 18.
The former Florida State Seminole withdrew from last week’s Genesis Invitational. He cited a back injury, but I’m inclined to think he’s just going back to the boat to celebrate his success.
If you follow Berger on Instagram, you know he loves to be out on the water in Jupiter.
I have no concerns for him keeping his trend going at the WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession.
Berger has the money to buy plenty of boats given how he’s played the last year. An injury plagued 2018 and 2019 have given way to the former PGA Tour Rookie of the Year back to old form. He’s climbed over 100 spots in the Official World Golf Rankings in the last year.
Berger has the longest active streak of rounds of par or better on the PGA Tour at 26. Even when he missed the cut in Phoenix he was at 2-under and one shot from making the weekend.
His other starts in 2021 were in Hawaii at the Tournament of Champions (10th) and the Sony Open (T-7th).
Whether or not Berger, who played his formative junior golf growing up 170 miles southeast in Jupiter, has logged a ton of rounds at Concession, it’s still a good course fit for him. Really, with his skill set, he can get it done anywhere.
Berger ranks 48th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach (.422) and is 15th in SG putting (.733).
