All of us can have bad stretches while playing golf. During the final round of the WGC Workday, Harris English showed that it can happen to the professionals too.

Sometimes, it can be on just one hole, like what happened to Rasmus Hojgaard during his final round. For others, like Harris English, it can be over a stretch of holes.

Things were going alright through five holes. Although it hadn’t been a great week for Harris English, he was playing okay. Even for the tournament, and was even on the day as he approached the par-3 6th hole, and it all went downhill from there.

It was the beginning of an awful 5-8-5 stretch for Harris English.

He would find a greenside bunker of the tee, and be faced with an up-and-down opportunity that pros see every week. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get out of the bunkers, finding himself in a different one on the other side of the green. He would finally get out, and two-putt for his double.

Off the tee on the par-5 7th, he would find himself in the native area and have to take a penalty drop. Without a good angle, he had to hit into the fairway and would be hitting his 4th shot from ~120 yards out. Still manageable, but not easy to get a par.

He would finish far from that, hitting short, chunking it, putting it on, and then two-putting. Oof.

The penalty he had to take on the 7th wasn’t the only one he would see in this stretch, as his second shot on the 8th hole would find the water. Luckily, he was able to get up and down from there on the par-4, and save a bogey, although it could’ve been much worse for him.

+2 through 59 holes wasn’t where he wanted to be at for the tournament. After that horrible 5-8-5 stretch, I’m sure he would’ve been overjoyed to still be at even instead of +6. Things got a little worse on the back end of his round, and two more bogeys would see him shoot 80 for the day, finishing at +8.

dark. Next. Tiger Woods: Plenty of tributes during final rounds Sunday

Golf can be tough for all of us, and on Sunday, Harris English reminded us that it can be difficult for the professionals too.
