Viktor Hovland continues to play remarkably consistent high-level golf. The 23-year-old Norwegian had the low score on the weekend en route to T-2nd at the WGC-Workday Championship.

It was a good result at a place like The Concession that challenges a player’s short game. That’s his weakness, and it cost him -2.129 strokes gained around the green for the week.

Really, though, he gained strokes around the green on three of four days. It’s just that he lost over four strokes on Friday. Gulp.

In spite of that and a triple-bogey to end his round Friday that made the difference in a three-shot loss to Collin Morikawa, Hovland was right up there due to supreme ball striking

The former Oklahoma State Cowboy ranked second in the field in SG tee to green (11.412 total). For the season, he’s sixth at 1.546 per round.

“I’ve been playing really solid the last few weeks and I’m leaving a bunch of shots out there with that 8 the other day and that three-hole stretch on the back nine here where I three-putted and missed a short putt and another three-putt,” Hovland was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “So I’m playing really solid. It’s cool to play that way.”

He earned his second career PGA Tour win in December at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Since then, Hovland’s stayed on a tear to go T-3rd (European Tour), T-31st, T-2nd, T-6th, T-5th and T-2nd.

Hovland is seeking his 15th straight made cut on the PGA Tour this week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. His first trip to Bay Hill netted him T-42nd (74-73-72-77) in 2020.
