A lot of players would take Justin Thomas’ resume at the Players Championship, but you know he’s miffed to have not won here yet.

The 13-time PGA Tour winner has made all five cuts at TPC Sawgrass highlighted by T-3rd (70-68-75-65) in 2016. He’s finished T-35th or better three times, including T-11th (73-70-68-66) in 2018.

“I love this place,” Thomas said in 2016 in a transcript from ASAP Sports. “I had a great chance to win last year and I just, something about this track and just the atmosphere, it’s a really fun tournament and I look forward to playing it every year.”

The tournament’s March date should benefit a big hitter like him, and expected mild conditions for this week help, too.

Thomas has finished T-15th or better in seven of nine PGA Tour events in the 2020-2021 season.

He’s looking to get over the hump as he hasn’t quite been able to finish off close calls like at the Zozo Championship (T-2nd) or Tournament of Champions (3rd).

The former Alabama Crimson Tide ranks sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach (.963) and is 23rd in SG around the green (.375). The driver has been wayward at times, so perhaps a venue where he can hit other clubs off the tee will help.

JT is coming off of a week of rest following T-15th at the WGC-Workday Championship.

Coming north to Ponte Vedra Beach isn’t too tough of a trip for the Jupiter, Florida resident. Thomas knows how to win in the Sunshine State, claiming a win at the 2018 Honda Classic.
