It’s not often that there’s something free with no strings attached, but The Players is offering Every Shot Live video on demand on the NBC Sports Golf app free to everyone on Thursday, the first round of the 2021 Players. If your favorite golfer is playing that day, you won’t miss a shot.

The new streaming service was supposed to debut at the 2020 Players, but since the tournament was cancelled because of COVID, it was only a one-day event last year for the new electronic offering.

On that Thursday in 2020 when Every Shot Live was working, the PGA Tour recorded nearly 10,000 shots.

This year, Every Shot Live estimates it will have – for the week — 43,000 video clips of approximately 430 rounds of golf.  Every tee will have one wireless, remote camera.  Every green will have a camera with operator.  Every fairway will have at least one wireless camera.

The shot-capturing technology uses 93 cameras.   The staff is for this extravaganza includes 63 staffers, 28 of which are camera operators and 35 of which are switcher operators.  Amazon Web Services Media Connect is handling the distribution.

For those who had tickets for the 2020 Players, the Tour and its sponsors are offering a one-week free trial to Every Shot Live.

When tickets went on sale for the 2021 Players, they were sold out in under an hour.  There were only 20 percent of last year’s tickets available which could easily translate into more than 10,000 people in the gallery per day.

Typically, all the top golfers in the world are at The Players. This year, Tiger Woods, due to his car accident, Brooks Koepka, due to a problem with his knee, and Matthew Wolff, who did not give a reason, are top golfers who are not in the tournament.

In addition to the top 144 who usually make up the field, 10 golfers will be added to the field due to the pandemic causing last year’s calendar to have a reduced number of events.
