The Mid-Tier

Both Collin Morikawa +2000 and Webb Simpson +2000 open this tier ahead of some big names this week. The last time we saw both Morikawa and Simpson was two weeks ago and both made a real statement about where their game is at during the WGC-Workday. Simpson has a fantastic history at TPC Sawgrass and won this event just a couple of years ago. Morikawa won in his last start and yet he still sits in this range, he has not played a full event at THE PLAYERS but he made a really good start in 2020 with an opening 68 before things were stopped.

Patrick Cantlay +2200 returns to play this week following his withdrawal before the WGC-Workday two weeks ago with an apparent stomach bug. Both Tony Finau and Jordan Spieth can be found at +2500 to close out the under +3000 range. The ever-consistent Finau remains in search of that elusive 2nd win on Tour, and it’s expected he will be in contention yet again after a great start to 2021. Jordan continues to revive his career and he has seemingly found himself in or near contention in every start recently, it will be interesting to see how he does this week at THE PLAYERS, a place that has given him problems in the past.

Tyrrell Hatton, Hideki Matsuyama, and Patrick Reed can all be found at +3300 with Daniel Berger +4000 and Tommy Fleetwood +4500 marking an end to those sitting at under +5000. All five in this range have been up and down with form recently, but cannot be counted out this week.

TPC Sawgrass is a place where one bad shot can essentially end your tournament, THE PLAYERS has also produced some incredible long-shot winners in the past including Si Woo Kim who was a 500/1 shot prior to his win.  All of this is said because really anyone is live to win this week, let’s take a look at those who made this week’s card.
