2021 Honda Classic: Top 10 power rankings at PGA National
Even with a 74 on Friday that nearly pushed him on the wrong side of the cut line, Shane Lowry battled to make himself a nice paycheck last week at the Players Championship. The Irishman earned solo eighth for his first top-10 of the PGA Tour season.
“I felt like I played good golf,” Lowry was quoted by ASAP Sports. “To be honest I’m pretty happy with the week in general because it’s not been the best run of form for me over the last while, and yeah, hopefully this is a bit of a momentum swinger and shift of momentum in the right direction going forward over the next few weeks.”
Lowry made no double bogeys or worse at TPC Sawgrass. He showed no big weaknesses statistically and was fifth in strokes gained around the green (.948). Think a good short game will translate to the Honda Classic?
Lowry also has a pair of top-30s in 2021 on the European Tour and a pair of top-25s late in 2020 on the PGA Tour.
Now, the 33 year old is in Palm Beach Gardens for his fourth Honda appearance.
He’s made all three cuts at PGA National and continues to trend up.
Lowry was T-53rd (67-75-69-75) in 2016, T-49th (71-74-75-67) in 2017 and T-21st (69-69-73-70) in 2020.
For the season, Lowry ranks 34th in SG tee to green (.749) and 37th in SG around the green (.273).
We’ve seen him contend at the U.S. Open as well as win the 2019 Open Championship. He seems to thrive when conditions get tricky.
