2021 Honda Classic: Top 10 power rankings at PGA National
Adam Scott is a former Honda Classic champion, and far from a one hit wonder at PGA National, either.
The sweet swinging Aussie won this event in 2016 thanks to rounds of 70-65-66-70.
He finished one clear of Sergio Garcia and four ahead of the next chasers.
Scott also claims T-12th (68-69-70-69) here in 2014, T-14th (68-69-71-68) in 2017, T-13th (73-72-67-69) in 2018 and was one shot away from playing the weekend in his last visit in 2019.
Scott has never been a great putter, but that’s a more manageable deficiency at this event. Reason being is he’s a good enough ball striker to avoid a lot of the trouble that lurks at PGA National. Not to mention, it’s hard for anyone to hit it close to pins consistently, so he doesn’t need to roll in a lot of putts and go low to contend.
Ironically, putting is his highest strokes gained stat this year where he’s 38th (.453). I expect his ball striking numbers to jolt back up as he starts to hone in on his Masters prep.
Scott is notorious for a light schedule and played just nine events in 2020, understandably so given the world’s circumstances. He’s back on a more consistent routine with six events already under his belt in 2021.
The 40 year old has made all four cuts highlighted by T-10th at the Farmers Insurance Open. Going back to last year, Scott’s made nine cuts in a row.
His last outing was T-48th last week at the Players Championship.
