2021 WGC-Match Play: Top 10 power rankings at Austin CC
Jon Rahm nearly pulled off the impressive feat of winning his WGC-Match Play debut in 2017. The fresh-faced Spaniard made it all the way to the finals where he fell victim to a red-hot Dustin Johnson.
Rahm hasn’t been able to make it to the bracket rounds since then, but I see that coming to an end. The former Arizona State Sun Devil.
I like him to go unbeaten in group play. He’s got an interesting matchup with Ryan Palmer, his teammate when they won the 2019 Zurich Classic of New Orleans together. Rahm was the catalyst for that duo and will get the best of his buddy this week.
Shane Lowry has shown good form of late, but he’ll be giving up too much length to Rahm.
Colombian Sebastian Munoz can take comfort in having another Spanish speaker to converse with throughout the day, but that won’t mean Rahm will take it easy on him.
The round of 16 could pit Rahm against Daniel Berger. This would be one of the top matchups of the round as Berger is coming in hot off a win at Pebble Beach and T-9th at the Players in 2021.
I see Rahm ending an impressive run by Scottie Scheffler in the quarterfinals. If these two meet, it’ll be fun to watch both absolutely vaporize the ball.
Rahm’s collision course will end at the hands of Justin Thomas in the semifinals.
Rahmbo will bounce back to dismount Sungjae Im, let’s say 4&3, in the third-place match.
The 26-year-old is second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained tee to green (1.671).
