2021 WGC-Match Play: Top 10 power rankings at Austin CC
No WGC-Match Play experience? No problem.
Scottie Scheffler is the best player in the world without a PGA Tour win. It only seems like a matter of time.
The former Texas Longhorn and Dallas native was the 2019-20 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year after capping his season at fifth in the FedEx Cup standings. This comes after ranking as the top junior golfer, becoming a collegiate all-American, and winning the Korn Ferry Tour money list.
I like Scheffler to play well this week and pull off an upset in the group stage over Xander Schauffele. Scheffler vs. Schauffele is a great name matchup, isn’t it?
Schauffele has not made the bracket stage in two tournament appearances.
Scheffler will also take care of Jason Day who has a good match play resume but has battled injuries and inconsistency in recent years.
Andy Sullivan hasn’t qualified for the WGC-Match Play since 2017 and of late does not have a top-10 in his last five starts primarily on the European Tour.
From there, I see Scheffler pulling out one more win against Cameron Smith in a clash of styles.
Scheffler will succumb in the quarterfinals to a player who can match him off the tee in Jon Rahm. Rahm is sharper in all areas and will outlast Scheffler to get to the semis.
