The time is now for Tony Finau to advance to the bracket stage for the first time. He’s won at least one match each of his first two trips to the WGC-Match Play and comes into this week playing high-quality golf.

Finau has three runner-up finishes in 2021 with one coming on the European Tour and the others on the PGA Tour. He posted two more top-10s, as well as a solo 14th in the last World Golf Championship, the WGC-Workday Championship.

Finau will do battle with a fellow long hitter in the group stage against Jason Kokrak. Kokrak had three top-10s on the Florida Swing, though Finau has a little better short game to give him the nod here.

Will Zalatoris is the new kid on the block playing great golf. It’s phenomenal how he’s crept inside the top 50 in the world without full PGA Tour status. I envision the Big Z giving Finau his toughest test, albeit in defeat.

Finau should be able to handle Dylan Frittelli, the final player to get into the field who comes in with four missed cuts in his last five events.

From there, I see Finau upsetting DeChambeau in the round of 16 and promptly sending Bryson an NFT of his match-clinching putt.

Finau is 13th on the PGA Tour in birdies per round (4.57). He’s certainly got the length to attack every drivable par-4 or par-5 at Austin Country Club.

The Utahan will meet his demise in the quarterfinals running into the buzz saw that is Collin Morikawa.
