2021 Texas Open: Top 10 power rankings at TPC San Antonio
I’m surrounding this slide with caution tape. In a vacuum, it makes all the sense in the world to pick Joel Dahmen this week coming off his win last week in the Dominican Republic.
But we’re not in vacuum, and I think those who know Dahmen know he’s going to celebrate his first PGA Tour victory in style. Be sure to check in that he’s still in the field Wednesday night if you’re backing him is all I’m saying.
The win did not get him into the Masters so he does have a week off coming soon. He did reaffirm he’ll be at the Texas Open in his post round press conference.
If Dahmen can play with house money and keep it rolling, there’s a lot to like from his win at the Corales Puntacana Championship.
Dahmen persevered through blustery conditions and a packed leaderboard to survive on the 72nd hole. Think that’ll translate to a usually windy Oaks course?
He was fourth in the field in scrambling (78.26%), T-14th in greens in regulation (68.06%) and fourth in putts per GIR (1.633).
The former Washington Husky shot 67-71-68-70 to outlast Rafael Campos and Sam Ryder by one. Even though it was an alternate field event, it was still impressive to see Dahmen come back from self-proclaimed equipment issues early this year and missed cuts in six of his last seven events.
“I am committed,” Dahmen was quoted by Tee Scripts. “I feel like they say the easiest time to get your second one is the week — obviously I’m playing well, but I’ve — I like to have a good time and next week’s as good as ever.”
Dahmen is making his fourth trip to TPC San Antonio. He made the cut the last two times in 2018 and 2019.
