Something about match play seems to get Matt Kuchar going. The seasoned veteran hasn’t been his sharpest this year, but he channeled his past world class form to make it all the way to the WGC-Match Play semifinals.

He won this event in 2013 and reached the championship in 2019.

Kuch swept through a tough group of Justin Thomas, Kevin Kisner and Louis Oosthuizen before defeating Jordan Spieth and Brian Harman. He lost just 1UP to Scottie Scheffler in the semis before routing Victor Perez in the third place match.

The 42-year-old Georgian looks like a new man posting his first top-10 since February 2020.

“This year’s been a struggle, but thankfully things have turned a corner, put in some good work with Chris O’Connell, really starting to feel good about my game,” Kuchar was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “There’s never a bad time to kind of be off, you would like to be on all the time, and I’ve been fortunate over the past several years to have a lot of on times, but certainly with the upcoming events it’s a good time to kind of have the game clicking a little bit better again.”

Kuchar will look to keep the momentum going at a comfortable venue. The former Georgia Tech standout is 7-for-7 making the cut at TPC San Antonio. He’s finished T-51st or better each time highlighted by T-4th (70-72-65-75) in 2014 and T-13th (70-76-67-73) in 2012.

Kuchar is 13th on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy (68.86%) and 11th in scrambling from inside 10 yards (95.83%).
