Finau comes to the Texas Open for the fourth time. The Utahan has made the cut all three times at TPC San Antonio, highlighted by taking T-3rd (71-65-74-69) in 2017 when he was the 36-hole leader. Finau was fourth in the field in strokes gained tee to green (11.255 total).

The big hitter went 1-1-1 in group play last week at the WGC-Match Play, leaving him a half-point short of advancing to the knockout stage.

Prior to the Players Championship, Finau had a run of a fourth place finish, three straight runner-up finishes and 14th place at the WGC at The Concession.

The 31 year old is having an efficient season on the PGA Tour, statistically. Finau ranks seventh in total strokes gained (1.683 per round) and is in the top 70 in SG putting for the second straight season after ranking outside the top 100 all but one prior season.

Finau has the ball flight and power to handle Texas winds.

He’s generally straight enough off the tee where he should be fine even if he misses into the light rough. The Oaks’ course’s four par-5s play pretty long, so he may be able to use his length to have eagle tries where many won’t.

Finau is ninth on the PGA Tour in eagle average, nabbing one every 84 holes.

The former “Big Break” TV show contestant has played well elsewhere in Texas when he finished second at Colonial at the Charles Schwab Challenge in 2019.
