Major season is right around the corner, and the PGA Tour had two champions this week after Billy Horschel won the WGC-Match Play and Joel Dahmen won the Corales Puntacana. Before we get to Augusta, let’s take a look at how their wins changed the FedEx Cup Rankings.

I mentioned the most recent winners, so it makes sense to see how their ranking changed in the FedEx Cup standings first. We will go with one of my favorite golfers in the world first, Joel Dahmen. Sitting on the edge of the playoffs, Dahmen was at 126th before teeing off at the Corales event in the Dominican. 300 points and $540,000 later, and he vaulted up the standings into 59th place, with a spot in the playoffs guaranteed, and a solid chance at round two.

A win gets you far in the FedEx Cup standings, as both Joel Dahmen and Billy Horschel can attest to.

Then there is Billy Horschel. WGC events get an extra 50 points as compared to regular PGA Tour events, meaning Horschel took home 550 points. He was already having a strong year, and had been in 45th place on the season. After earning his first win since 2018, he made it all the way into the top ten, and now sits in 7th place, just behind Dustin Johnson. Four top-tens and a win can do wonders for your season.

Scottie Scheffler was another big mover after making it to the finals against Horschel. He went from 59th (oddly enough where Dahmen sits now), all the way to 26th. He doesn’t have a win this year, but top 30 is nothing to scoff at.

Jordan Spieth continues a slow climb up the rankings, cracking the top 40. Sam Ryder, losing to Dahmen by a stroke, moved from 125th to 93rd, and can feel a lot more confident about making the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Matt Kuchar made a huge leap, jumping from 179th to 102nd, showing how much a single strong showing can do for your season and your path to the playoffs. Horschel is the only one in the top ten that’s been mentioned so far, but the rest of the list looks like this, without much movement otherwise.

  1. Bryson DeChambeau – 1,565 points
  2. Justin Thomas – 57 points behind
  3. Patrick Cantlay – 285 behind
  4. Viktor Hovland – 350 behind
  5. Xander Schauffele – 410 behind
  6. Dustin Johnson – 426 behind
  7. Billy Horschel – 504 behind
  8. Harris English – 554 behind
  9. Tony Finau – 560 behind
  10. Joaquin Niemann – 588 behind

Xander, Finau, and Niemann are the only ones without wins in the top ten, giving further credence to how well they have been playing this season outside of an actual win. DeChambeau and Thomas are the clear leaders at the top, with just 2-6 able to catch DeChambeau with a victory, and 2-10 able to catch him with a Major victory.

The list is shaping up nicely, with a lot of top names and consistent players headlining the list. Major season is almost here, and we are about to see some new entrants or current top-tens run away with the points lead.
