Paul Casey comes to Harbour Town showing steady form. The Englishman compiled his eighth straight worldwide top-30 when he finished T-26th last week at the Masters. He didn’t have his best stuff but a closing 69 could give him some momentum.

Casey won early in the year on the European Tour at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. He was also top 10 stateside at Pebble Beach, Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass. The latter two had stronger fields than the one assembled here in Hilton Head.

Casey missed the cut in his last two starts at the RBC Heritage in 2016 and 2018 but still has a good resume here. He debuted with T-11th (73-70-69-66) in 2009, was T-22nd (75-65-70-69) in 2010 and T-18th (74-67-72-68) in 2014.

The 43-year-old ranks 17th in strokes gained approach (.66) and 18th tee to green (1.070). If he’s hitting fairways, which are pretty generous, he’s deadly. Casey is 10th in proximity from the fairway (29’5”)

Given the layups everyone is forced to take off the tee, long iron play can be useful. The former Arizona State Sun Devil is second in proximity from 200+ yards (41’10”).

Casey isn’t the sexiest pick out there, but you know what you’re going to get from him. He’s made his last eight worldwide stroke play cuts, as well as 12 of the last 13.

It’s crazy to think he’s got just three PGA Tour wins. Casey can’t wait to go for his third alone at the Valspar Championship later this month, but the Heritage could be a preferred spot for him, too.
