Cameron Smith continued an impressive stretch of golf last week at the Masters. The Aussie bounced back from an opening 74 at Augusta National with 68-73-70 to climb up to T-10th. That was the 27-year-old’s fourth top-10 and 16th made cut in 19 major starts.

Just make a few tune-ups and there’s no reason he can’t win this week.

“Yeah, it was a pretty up-and-down week,” Smith was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “There was lots of good. Just probably wasn’t quite sharp enough with the shots into the green. I think my putting was just a touch out. My speed was a bit out this week.”

Prior to the Masters, Smith had four more top-30s in a row including solo fourth at the Genesis Invitational and T-11th at the WGC-Workday Championship. He can contend against elite fields.

Smith missed the cut at the RBC Heritage the last two years. That’s not deterring me because Harbour Town seems like it should be a good fit for him.

He can be wayward off the tee, but perhaps with less than driver he can get it in the short grass. Smith is willing to go at pins when given the opportunity. He’s top 50 on the PGA Tour in proximity in various categories from 100-150 yards.

The long-haired golfer is third in sand saves (64.77%) and 12th in birdie average (4.46).

Smith was T-15th at the 2015 RBC Heritage, T-29th in 2017 and T-32nd in 2018. He combined for 10 rounds of par or better in that stretch.
