2021 RBC Heritage: Top 10 power rankings at Harbour Town
Daniel Berger’s improved each time at the RBC Heritage. The Floridian debuted with a T-72nd (72-68-75-72) finish in 2015 as a rookie, was T-33rd (66-69-72-74) in 2019 and T-3rd (67-69-63-65) in 2020. Last year’s result was impressive in more ways than one.
For starters, Berger was a week removed from a playoff win at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Then, at Harbour Town his Saturday 63 tied the low round of the tournament. His 20-under total tied the previous tournament record in the birdie fest that occurred in a rare June RBC Heritage.
Normally Berger is a solid ball striker. He had far from his best stuff in that regard but was the top scrambler in the field (90.91%) and ranked eighth in strokes gained putting (5.274 total).
The former Florida State Seminole made three straight birdies to close the tournament.
“I think the golf course here actually sets up really well for me,” Berger was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2020. “It’s a lot of little chip drivers. I’ve got a 3 wood that I really like now.”
Berger is coming off a rare missed cut last week at the Masters. It snapped a streak of five straight made cuts at the majors.
The 28-year-old is a winner in 2021 at Pebble Beach. He was also in the top 10 in both Hawaii events and the Players Championship.
Berger ranks ninth on the PGA Tour in birdie average (4.53). He’s also 16th in strokes gained putting (.607). His weakness this season is around the greens, but we’ve seen that he can save par with the best of them around Harbour Town.
