Like he so often did throughout his rookie campaign in 2018-19, Sungjae Im looked like a seasoned vet competing at the Valspar Championship for the first time. In 2019, he fired 70-67-71-70 and was one of three players to shoot par or better all four days.

The South Korean was just two shots off the pace of champion Paul Casey. Im did not make double bogey or worse all week and ranked third in strokes gained tee to green (8.552 total). He was also tied for first with 49 greens in regulation hit (68.06%).

The 23-year-old missed the cut playing alongside countryman Byeong Hun An at last week’s two-man team event, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Im was playing well on his own merit prior to the trip to the Big Easy. He finished T-13th at the RBC Heritage, his sixth top-30 in his last eight starts.

Im ranks seventh on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.708). I think approach statistics are of higher magnitude this week, but there’s still something to be said from playing your second shot from the right areas to attack the Copperhead course’s small greens.

He is also 19th in SG putting and should be comfortable rolling it on Bermuda. He won the Honda Classic on this surface and should see it plenty playing near his new home in Atlanta.

A made cut in Palm Harbor would be his 10th in a row at non-majors. That type of consistency makes him a good DFS pick this week and an attractive bet to win if you want more value than from the likes of DJ and JT, who I’ll get to shortly.
