Now that Xander Schauffele has a couple appearances under his belt at Quail Hollow, I like him to elevate his game here in Charlotte.

Schauffele missed the cut at the 2017 PGA Championship and was T-72nd in 2018.

Enough with the bad news. The X Man is playing great golf leading in.

He’s been ultra consistent with four top-10s in eight starts in 2021.

Schauffele contended at the Masters (T-3rd) for the second time in three years and has been agonizingly close to a win. A pair of runner-up finishes came his way early in the year at the Farmers Insurance Open and Waste Management Phoenix Open, as well as T-5th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Schauffele comes into the Wells Fargo Championship off a week of rest. He and Patrick Cantlay teamed up for T-11th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The former San Diego State Aztec ranks third on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.851). He’s as well-rounded as they come. Schauffele sits at 13th in SG around the green (.412) and is top 50 elsewhere.

The 27-year-old Californian has made 16 of his last 17 cuts going back to January 2020. The weight of no wins since 2019 has got to be heavy. Credit to him for not letting that derail him. Schauffele is at his apex in the Official World Golf Rankings at No. 4.

Schauffele seems like a lock for the 2022 Presidents Cup. I predict him to turn the ship around at Quail Hollow ahead of time and contend for the trophy.
