2021 Wells Fargo Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Quail Hollow
Before winning the 2018 Masters, Patrick Reed first proved he could contend in a major when he finished T-2nd at the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Reed fired 69-73-69-67 to finish two back of Justin Thomas. It was a master class in scrambling on Sunday as he scraped it around in 4-under par while hitting just five greens.
“Yeah, I feel good. Anytime you can come back to Charlotte and Quail Hollow and come play, it’s always awesome,” Reed was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2018. “Weather’s always usually really good, the golf courses are normally in perfect shape and it’s just one of those events you look forward to every year to come out, play some good golf and hopefully have a chance to come down late Sunday.”
Reed followed it up at this venue by taking solo eighth (71-71-67-69) at the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship and contended early on en route to T-28th (67-69-71-74) in 2019.
He’s up to 7-for-7 in cuts made at this course.
The 30-year-old out of Augusta State is playing for the second week in a row after two weeks off. Reed missed the cut at the Valspar Championship, just his third missed cut in his last 15 tries worldwide.
Reed won this year at the Farmers Insurance Open and recently picked up his third top-10 at the Masters (T-8th).
Reed is having a remarkable season on the greens. He’s been No. 1 on the PGA Tour at times in strokes gained putting and is currently No. 2 (.951). It’s possible we see a softer Quail Hollow this week. If more birdies are made, that suits Reed who’s second at 4.63 per round.
Reed is a good recovery artist playing from the trees. He’s also 58th in proximity from the rough (43’5”).
