2021 Wells Fargo Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Quail Hollow
Webb Simpson has home course advantage this week. He’s a Quail Hollow member and resident and has two top-five finishes at the Wells Fargo Championship.
He was the 54-hole leader en route to solo fourth (65-68-69-73) in 2012 and co-led going into the weekend where he finished T-2nd (67-67-68-72).
“I think it helps a little bit. Just knowing, you know, where to miss it for the pins we’re playing, I think that helps,” Simpson was transcribed in 2015. “I think knowing when tendencies — the wind on 7 and the wind on all the holes around the back always swirls. I think that helps, those little kind of the little things.”
Simpson last finished T-18th (69-73-69-68) at the 2019 Wells Fargo.
The Wake Forest grad will certainly be one of the gallery favorites.
Simpson comes in rested off of two weeks away. His last result was T-9th at the RBC Heritage. It was his third top-10 of 2021 and 12th made cut in his last 13 tries.
The 35-year-old ranks top 60 on the PGA Tour in each of the main strokes gained categories. He’s also fifth in driving accuracy (71.12%). That’s not ultra important this week, but Simpson goes against the grain by relying on his accuracy and improved putting in recent years.
Simpson’s 18th in SG putting (.591). He’s also in the exclusive 70%+ GIR club ranking 11th at 70.05%. The crafty vet is also sixth in sand saves (64.38%).
