TPC Craig Ranch is new to the PGA Tour. It’s not new to Scottie Scheffler.

The Dallas, Texas, native was one of the first golfers to win an event here when he played and won junior tournaments held at TPC Craig Ranch in the late 2000s.

Scheffler was a can’t miss kid at the time and continues to impress as a pro.

He’s close to breaking into the top 20 in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time. Picking up his first PGA Tour win this week would certainly do the trick.

Scheffler’s closest call also came in the Lone Star state when he finished second at the WGC-Match Play in Austin.

It’s one of three top-10s for the 24-year-old in 2021. You can add one more to the tally for tying for eighth place at the Zurich Classic with partner Bubba Watson.

Scheffler’s also got three additional top-30s, including T-18th at the Masters and T-29th his last time out at the Valspar Championship a couple weeks ago.

The former Texas Longhorn ranks 15th in strokes gained off the tee (.564). He’s not just spraying and praying like a lot of the bombers these days. Scheffler is long (305.2 yards, 32nd) and accurate (67.14% fairways, 26th).

Mix in a top-50 short game (.261 SG around the green, 40th), and it’s easy to see why he is so consistent. Scheffler’s missed just three cuts since October.

This guy is close to rising above dark horse status at the majors. A win at the AT&T Byron Nelson would push him into the group of favorites.
