It wasn’t Phil Mickelson. It wasn’t Louis Oosthuizen or Brooks Koepka, either. Abraham Ancer was the one to fire the low round of the PGA Championship last week at Kiawah Island.

A Sunday 65 vaulted him 50 spots up to T-8th for his best career major championship finish.

“Yeah, obviously I felt great,” ASAP Sports quoted Ancer on Sunday. “I hit the ball really well today off the tee. I don’t think I missed really any tee balls. I hit every single one exactly where I was — where I wanted to hit it, so that obviously helped me a lot.”

It was a continuation of an incredible streak of golf for the 30-year-old Mexican-American. It was his third straight top-10 after solo fifth at the Valspar Championship and solo second at the Wells Fargo Championship. It was his third career runner-up for one of the top PGA Tour players without a win.

Ancer is up to nine straight top-30 finishes with his last missed cut coming all the way back in February.

The McAllen, Texas, native is teeing it up at the Charles Schwab Challenge for the fourth time. Ancer made the cut his first three times and posted his best last year with T-14th (64-70-66-70). He was only five shots out of a playoff on an incredibly packed leaderboard.

Ancer is a shorter hitter who has to enjoy layouts like Colonial. This course rewards driving accuracy and he was first in the field last week in fairways hit (82.14%).  The former Oklahoma Sooner is second on the season in that stat (72.89%).

Ancer is 21st in approaches from 150-175 yards (24’11”) and 12th in greens in regulation (69.85%).
