2021 Charles Schwab Challenge: Top 10 power rankings at Colonial CC
Justin Thomas finished in the top 10 last year in his debut at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He posted T-10th with scores of 64-68-66-71. JT finished just four shots out of a playoff.
“…it’s all right in front of you,” Thomas was transcribed by ASAP Sports describing Colonial prior to the 2020 tournament. “It’s just a great old-school golf course where you put the ball in play and then it’s a second-shot course, and hitting to the small greens, and you have pure bent greens. I’m just excited to be here, because again, it’s a place that I’ve always wanted to come to, just never worked out in the schedule…”
He comes to Colonial off of a disappointing missed cut at the PGA Championship. It was the 28-year-old’s first MC since February.
Thomas is a winner in 2021 at the Players Championship and owns five top-30s in his last seven starts.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide ranks third on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach (1.068) and third in SG tee to green (1.577). Thomas is also tops in birdie average (4.71), third in proximity from 125-150 yards (18’7”) and third in proximity from the fairway (29’8”). There are 14 par-4s on the scorecard this week. He’s 11th in par-4 scoring (3.98).
Thomas is a 14-time PGA Tour winner. A hole in his resume is a win in Texas. I expect him to be right there in the hunt to add to his trophy case.
