The defending Charles Schwab Challenge champion is certainly worthy of a spot in the top 10 power rankings this week.

Daniel Berger comes into the week having made three cuts in a row and five of the last six. His game doesn’t always blow you away, but he’s consistent. The former Florida State Seminole has a win in 2021 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He was also recently T-3rd at the AT&T Byron Nelson and last week shook off an opening 79 to make the cut at the PGA Championship.

This time a year ago, Berger was outside the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Injuries plagued the former PGA Tour Rookie of the Year and his game deserted him for a couple years. Now, he’s back to being Mr. Consistent.

Berger posted three straight top-10s early in 2020 before the pandemic hit. Fortunately, he picked up where he left off by winning the first tournament back at Colonial. Berger outlasted Collin Morikawa in a playoff.

DB shot 65-67-67-66 to beat the strongest field in Charles Schwab Challenge history.

He was sixth in the field in strokes gained tee to green (7.58 total) and T-5th in greens in regulation (77.78%).

In 2020-21, the 28-year-old ranks in the top 30 in SG off the tee (.426), SG approach (.593) and SG putting (.485). Berger is also sixth in birdie average (4.5) and 11th in par-4 scoring (3.98).

This will be Berger’s fourth trip to Colonial. He made one of two cuts before his win.
