Patrick Reed has walked away a richer man each time coming to Muirfield Village. He’s 6-for-6 making the cut at this course with two top-10s. Reed finished T-8th and just three shots back in 2016 (68-71-69-68) and T-10th (71-76-70-71) at the 2020 Memorial.

Reed knows how to putt on bentgrass greens. That’s the surface he won on at the 2018 Masters.

The 30-year-old Texan ranks third on the PGA Tour in strokes gained putting (.923).

“You can hit to eight feet on some holes but if you leave it in the wrong spot, if you don’t make the putt you’re going to have four feet coming back,” Reed said of Muirfield Village in 2020 in an ASAP Sports transcript.

He’s also 24th in SG around the green (.314) and 10th in par-breakers (25%).

Reed comes into the week off a missed cut in his home state at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He was in good form before that with three top-20s in his four previous starts. Reed’s also a winner in 2021 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

There’s still a few months to go before the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits. Reed appears to have a good shot at making the team sitting seventh on the U.S. points list, just one spot away from automatically qualifying. You know he’d love to earn an automatic spot to avoid having to be a captain’s pick given his prickly relationship with some of the team members.

A win at an iconic venue and against a stacked field would all but lock up his spot.
