2021 Palmetto Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Congaree
Branden Grace is coming on strong this summer. After already winning early in the year at the Puerto Rico Open, the South African is now coming off solo fourth place last week at the Memorial Tournament.
It built on a solid showing at the PGA Championship where Grace contended through three rounds before falling back to T-38th. He did withdraw from the Charles Schwab Challenge after round one citing a back injury, but perhaps he just wanted to get out of there after shooting 76.
Whatever the issue was appears to be resolved as he fired four rounds of par or better at Muirfield Village.
Discounting the WD at Colonial, the 33-year-old comes into the Palmetto Championship on five straight made cuts and nine of the last 10.
He earned a paycheck at both South Carolina events.
Grace’s statistical profile won’t blow you out of the water. It’s just solid. He ranks above average on approach, around the green, putting and tee to green.
Grace is among those teeing it up on Monday at U.S. Open sectional qualifying.
He mentioned at Kiawah Island he liked that style of course. One that asks for a low ball flight and where the ground game is key.
It’s yet to be seen how Congaree will perform. If it is anything like Kiawah Island, that will be a welcome sight for a low-ball hitter like Grace.
“It kind of goes into my — into how I like to play golf,” Grace was transcribed at the PGA Championship by ASAP Sports. “I love the dive-off courses, and it’s just literally getting the ball low, getting it on the ground and letting it run and be creative around the greens and really commit to what you want to do.”
