Last week the PGA Tour was in South Carolina for the first-ever Palmetto Championship at Congaree. My DraftKings sleeper selections were highlighted by Jhonattan Vegas, who finished in a tie for second.

This week the PGA Tour is back at Torrey Pines for the season’s third major championship. If you remember, Patrick Reed won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines back in January.

As always, check out Hans Geevers’ full-lineup picks that he posts each and every week. Hans’ article is also great for reading about the course, and how he believes it will play.

And of course, as always in my articles, I am only looking at players under the average DraftKings salary of $8,333. Finding value is the most important thing when making your selections, so I hope to bring you some solid options.

The key stats I will be looking at this week are driving distance and accuracy, strokes gained off-the-tee and putting, birdie or better percentage, and par 4 efficiency 450-500 yards. Here are my selections:

Tyrrell Hatton ($8,300)

My 8K selection of the week is Tyrrell Hatton. Hatton is coming off his best finish of the season after a T2 last week at Congaree. The finish was Hatton’s second top-10 in his last three starts, and Hatton hasn’t missed a cut since The Players Championship.

So far on tour this season Hatton sits 21st in strokes gained off-the-tee, T33 par 4 efficiency 450-500 yards, 39th in birdie or better percentage, 46th in driving accuracy, 71st in strokes gained putting, and 77th driving distance.

Hatton will be making his first start at Torrey Pines this week, and finished T38 at the PGA Championship a few weeks ago.

Some of my other favorite 8K selections include Webb Simpson ($8,700) and Will Zalatoris ($8,700)

Sam Burns ($7,700)

My first 7K selection of the week is Sam Burns. Burns hasn’t been playing a lot of golf recently, only playing in three events since the start of May. Burns made the cut at the Memorial, but W/D from the PGA Championship before that.

So far on tour this season Burns sits first in birdie or better percentage, making a birdie or better 25.96% of his holes. To go with that, Burns sits 16th in par 4 efficiency 450-500 yards, T25 in strokes gained putting, 30th in driving distance, and 47th in strokes gained off-the-tee.

Burns has a nice history at Torrey Pines, making three of his four career cuts, including a best finish of T18 this season at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Adam Scott ($7,400)

My final 7K selection of the week is Adam Scott. “Big-Event Adam” is back this week, making only his fourth start since the start of April. Those starts, the Masters, PGA Championship, and the Memorial. They don’t call him “Big-Event Adam” for nothing.

So far on tour this season Scott sits 20th in driving distance, 35th in strokes gained putting, and 44th in birdie or better.

Scott has only made two starts at the Farmers Insurance Open, and they came in 2019 and 2021. In 2019 Scott finished 10th, and this season he finished second. Although, Scott’s first start at Torrey Pines came in 2008 at the U.S. Open, where he finished inside the top-30.

Some of my other favorite 7K selections include Shane Lowry ($7,600) and Jason Kokrak ($7,500)

Rafa Cabrera Bello ($6,700)

My first 6K selection of the week is Rafa Cabrera Bello. Rafa is on a nice run of golf in the states, making three of his last four PGA Tour cuts, highlighted by a T21 AT&T Byron Nelson.

So far on tour this season Rafa sits 51st in driving accuracy and T53 in strokes gained putting.

Cabrera Bello has played in every U.S. Open since 2016, and hasn’t missed a cut in any of them.

Brendan Steele ($6,500)

My final selection of the week is Brendan Steele. Steele is priced a bit too cheap this week, especially since he hasn’t missed a cut since the 2020 calendar year. He’s been a perfect 13/13 in 2021.

So far on tour this season Steele sits T26 in par 4 efficiency 450-500 yards, T61 in strokes gained off-the-tee, T70 in driving distance, and 83rd in driving accuracy.

From 2013-2018 Brendan Steele didn’t miss a cut at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. In those six years, Steele finished inside the top-30 four times.

Some of my other favorite 6K selections include Wyndham Clark ($6,700) and Chan Kim ($6,100)
