Bubba Watson is the king of the Travelers Championship. No matter what form he brings to TPC River Highlands, he churns out high finishes at this event better than anyone.

He’s a three-time champion in 2010, 2015 and 2018 with a runner-up in 2012, two more top-10s and two additional top-25s. He’s only missed the cut in 2017 and then by one shot last year.

The Travelers is an event where short hitters feel like they’ve got a great shot to win. Watson shows that the big hitters can still bash it around.

He’s a player who needs to have the course suit his eye to generally pay well. U.S. Open style setups aren’t his cup of tea. This Pete Dye design is.

Watson likes to shape the ball around the tree line and can hit short clubs into greens all day.

The Travelers Championship holds a lot of sentimental value for a sentimental guy.

“I’ve been saying this is like my second home,” Watson was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2020. “It’s crazy to think it’s been 10 years when I won here. My first win ever was here, my dad passing away, just all the memories that it brings up, great memories, sad memories, whatever you want to call it, but for my family this is a big week.”

The 12-time PGA Tour winner is 42 now so the years are starting to run out. I still think there’s still plenty of juice to squeeze at least at this event.

Bubba’s made five of his last six cuts, which includes T-13th at the Valspar Championship.

You know he’d love to win at least one more event after going three years since the last one. Watson won thrice in 2018.

The lefty ranks sixth on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained off the tee (.673). If niche stats are more your thing, Watson is also first in scrambling from the fringe at a perfect 29-for-29.
