2021 Travelers Championship: Top 10 power rankings at TPC River Highlands
I’m not looking too much into a couple bad weeks for Abraham Ancer.
He made an interesting appearance at the Porsche European Open on the European Tour where he missed the cut. Ancer MC’d again at the U.S. Open at a tough course for him in Torrey Pines.
TPC River Highlands is a much better fit. Past results bear that out.
Ancer posted T-8th (64-73-70-63) in 2019 and T-11th (67-65-66-69) in 2020.
He was Abraham Acer in round one last year when he aced the par-3 16th.
“Yeah, I think you use every club in the bag out here,” Ancer was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2019. “It’s not a super long golf course, but it’s pretty penal if you don’t hit the right shots.”
Ancer has played great golf for most of 2021. He still seeks his first PGA Tour win but recorded his fourth career runner-up this spring at the Wells Fargo Championship.
The former Oklahoma Sooner piled up 10 top-10s in a row from February to May.
Ancer ranks 26th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.174) and is right around that rank in the individual SG categories, except for around the green.
He’s down in 160th in distance, but that won’t be a factor at TPC River Highlands. Doubly so if conditions are firm.
Ancer is sixth in driving accuracy (70.93%) and 11th in greens in regulation (68.99%). Although his short game SG stats don’t blow you away, Mexico’s top golfer is still 14th in scrambling (63.44%).
