If Bubba Watson’s the king of the Travelers Championship, Kevin Streelman is one of the princes.

Streels only has one win at TPC River Highlands to Bubba’s three, but both have made their accountants proud by their performances here in Connecticut.

The highlight, of course, for Streelman was the win that was a long time coming in 2014.

He fired 69-68-64-64 to fend off K.J. Choi and Sergio Garcia who were a shot off the pace.

There’s no such thing as a “regular” 64 in my book, but Streelman’s was definitely far from it.

A plaque commemorates where Streels reeled off seven straight birdies to close a historic final round.

“Yeah, it’s always special for me to get back here, to see that plaque on 12, and just brings back great memories of a very special afternoon for me, and like I said, just shows anything can happen finishing up around here, and just got to give yourself a chance,” Streelman was quoted by ASAP Sports in 2020.

The Illinois native already owned five made cuts and two top-10s in six Travelers Championship starts prior to the win.

Streelman has only missed one (2016) in the six years since. That includes T-8th (69-70-69-64) in 2017 and second (66-66-63-67) in 2020.

Streelman’s result last year against an elite field goes down as his third-best career event as far as earning Official World Golf Rankings. Streelman was just one behind Dustin Johnson.

Streelman made no double bogeys or worse and found the sand just twice all week.

This isn’t just a horse for the course pick. Streelman is playing some of the best golf of his life in 2021.

The 42-year-old Duke grad posted his fourth straight top-20 last week at the U.S. Open, where he finished T-15th.

Streelman is hanging in with the bombers and big names by winning his pool at the WGC-Match Play, contending at the PGA Championship for T-8th and T-13th at the Memorial Tournament.

He ranks 43rd on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.281) and 27th in SG approach (.505). That includes 15th in approaches from 50-125 yards (16’7″).
