2021 Travelers Championship: Top 10 power rankings at TPC River Highlands
Patrick Reed hasn’t won since the Farmers Insurance Open in February, but he keeps chugging along with steady golf.
The Texan four top-10s and three more top-25s in the ensuing 12 starts. That includes solo fifth a few weeks back at the Memorial Tournament, as well as T-19th last week at the U.S. Open.
Reed was unable to double dip at Torrey Pines this year, though a Sunday 67 tied for low round of the tournament with champion Jon Rahm and a slew of others.
This will be the 30-year-old’s 10th straight Travelers Championship start.
“You know, it’s always great being back,” Reed was quoted in 2018 by ASAP Sports. “It’s one of my favorite spots to be. We love coming here. We love the area. We think the golf course is great. It’s always in really good, almost perfect shape every year we come, and the fans and the people, Travelers and everybody who’s helping with the event has always been very kind, very generous and very nice to all of us and very supportive, and what better way to repay that than by always coming to their event?”
Reed owns six made cuts at TPC River Highlands. Five of those ended in top-30s, incuding T-5th (67-66-72-66) in 2017 when he finished just three shots out of a playoff.
The driver has been the weak club in the bag this season. Getting to club down if he wants this week could help a player like Reed who’s thriving in most other areas.
He’s 15th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around the green (.397) and fifth in SG putting (.831). Reed’s 21st in birdie average (4.14) and eighth in sand saves (62.26%).
