2021 Travelers Championship: Top 10 power rankings at TPC River Highlands
The Travelers Championship has been a cash cow for Paul Casey over the last six years. All he needs now is a trophy and a black jacket to show for it.
The Englishman debuted at TPC River Highlands in 2015 and succumbed to the king of Cromwell, Bubba Watson, in a playoff (67-68-64-65). Casey posted T-17th (68-67-66-71) in 2016 and was T-5th (68-68-66-69) and three shots back in 2017. In 2018, he led after 54 holes before being caught by Bubba Watson yet again and settling for second (65-67-62-72). Casey hit all 18 greens in regulation in his 62.
He continued with T-5th (65-68-71-65) in 2019 and was T-32nd (69-66-67-68) in 2020 despite four rounds in the 60s.
“It’s open for anybody to play well around here.” Casey was quoted by ASAP Sports in 2018. “It suits all types of games. It’s fun.”
The 43-year-old enters in excellent form. He’s got three top-10s in a row, including T-4th at the PGA Championship and T-7th at the U.S. Open.
Casey looked out of the tournament making the cut on the number at Torrey Pines before closing in 67 and 70 and having a legitimate shot to win on the back nine Sunday.
The former Arizona State Sun Devil will look to make it two ASU winners in a row after Jon Rahm got it done. Casey is a winner in 2021 on the European Tour at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
He ranks third in strokes gained approach (.881). Iron play is Casey’s strength, and that’s what can shine at the Travelers Championship.
He’s also 33rd in SG around the green (.272) and ninth in proximity from the fairway (30’3″).
