Charley Hoffman’s 2021 didn’t get off to a great start. He had to withdraw mid-tournament twice in a row. He missed the cut in his first event back.

Since then, the 44-year-old is turning back the clock to play some incredibly consistent golf. Hoffman enters the Rocket Mortgage Classic on a streak of 13 straight made cuts.

That stretch includes a solo second at the Texas Open. It was the closest call to picking up his fifth career PGA Tour win and first since 2014.

Hoffman will be playing for the third straight week. The Californian earned T-57th in his home state at the U.S. Open and T-30th at the Travelers Championship.

Hoffman picked up a T-3rd at Colonial last month, also. He owns nine top-20s in 2021.

This will be Hoffman’s second trip to Detroit Golf Club. He missed the cut in 2019.

Hoffman is on pace to qualify for the Tour Championship for the first time since 2017. He ranks 23rd in strokes gained tee to green (.97) and is 13th in SG approach (.711).

A soft course on tap in Michigan would seem beneficial. He can still poke it out there at 25th in driving distance (306.8) and short game deficiencies may not be as exposed.

It won’t be surprising to see the winning score creep into 20-under-par or better. That’s fine for Hoffman, who is 21st in birdie average (4.12).

I like for Hoffman to churn out another top-10 and be a name to watch on Sunday.
