It’s almost a cliche within golf punditry, but Jordan Spieth just seems made for the Open Championship, no?

We’ll start with his resume in this prestigious tournament. The 27-year-old American can become this generation’s Tom Watson if he lifts the Claret Jug once again.

Spieth’s game fits the links land. He’s a nut for golf strategy and will have Royal St. George’s mapped out to the full extent along with caddie Michael Greller who has been there for all three major victories.

Wider avenues off the tee will help mitigate an inconsistent driver. As long as he’s in play, craftsmanship with his irons and around the greens will help him gain ground on the bombers.

Spieth won anywhere in the world for the first time since his 2017 Open Championship win when he took the title this spring in his home state at the Texas Open.

The former Texas Longhorn hasn’t missed a cut since the Farmers Insurance Open in January. He owns eight top-10s in 14 starts in 2021.

Spieth’s made all three cuts at the majors this year led by T-3rd at the Masters.

At the Open Championship, Spieth is 7-for-7 making the weekend with three top-10s and no worse than T-44th. Overall in the majors, he’s 29-for-34 with 11 top-10s.

This season on the PGA Tour, Spieth’s eighth in strokes gained around the green (.428) and 34th in SG putting (.436). Not to mention he’s 13th in birdie average (4.25) and 11th in proximity from 150-175 yards (24’9”).
