Best performers of the 2021 Major championship season
By Bill Felber
8. Kevin Streelman, -0.777
Like Hovland, Streelman only competed in three of the calendar year’s four Majors. He did not qualify to receive an invitation to the Masters.
But when Streelman did tee it up, he was consistently a top 20 figure, if not a title contender. And consistent performance in the biggest events means something.
He tied for eighth at the PGA, for 15th at the U.S. Open and for 19th at the British Open. In all three of his Major starts, he bettered the four-round field average.
That made 2021 easily the best Major season of Streelman’s career.
Streelman’s scores
Masters DNP
PGA -1.06
U.S. Open -0.77
British Open -0.50
Average -0.78
7. Paul Casey, -0.783
Casey’s Major season started indifferently. He tied for 26th at the Masters, 11 strokes behind Matsuyama. Then his Major season quickly picked up steam.
At the PGA, Casey tied for fourth, four strokes behind Mickelson. He tied for seventh at the U.S. Open, five strokes behind Rahm, and this past weekend tied for 15th at St. George’s.
Like Streelman, the overall result was the best Major season of Casey’s substantial career. His averages:
Masters +0.08
PGA -1.30
U.S. Open -1.19
British Open -0.72
Average -0.78
