Best performers of the 2021 Major championship season
By Bill Felber
4. Jordan Spieth, -1.30
The 2021 Majors marked a redemptive series for Spieth, who entered them having shown virtually no big-game form for two seasons.
After beginning to break out of his slump over the winter, Spieth arrived at Augusta and chased Matsuyama to the finish. He finished that week in a tie for third place, just three strokes off the lead.
Following an indifferent tie for 30th at Kiawah Island, Spieth tied for 19th at the U.S. Open, then made a serious run at Morikawa at the Brit. He finished just two strokes off the pace in solo second.
Like Scheffler, he beat the four-round field average in all four Major championships.
His scores
Masters -1.66
PGA -0.36
U.S. Open -0.66
British Open -2.50

3. Collin Morikawa, -1.440
Morikawa was the third player to beat the field average in all four Majors. His season picked up as it rolled along, with steadily improved finishes.
Morikawa finished in a tie for 18th at the Masters before stepping up to a tie for eighth at the PGA. He tied for fourth, four strokes behind Rahm, at Torrey Pines, then swept past Louis Oosthuizen this Sunday at win at Royal St. George’s.
His British victory, by 2.94 standard deviations superior to the field average, was the most decisive performance in a Major by any player in 2021.
