A T-12th at The Open was just what the doctor ordered for Emiliano Grillo. The Argentine has quietly been one of the PGA Tour’s steadiest golfers in the 2020-21 season until a rash of three straight missed cuts that Grillo halted at Royal St. George’s.

That was already his 12th top-30 of the season, which includes T-2nd at the RBC Heritage and made cuts in both majors in which he competed.

Grillo won on the PGA Tour in 2015 at the Frys.com Open (now Safeway Open) and has three runner-up finishes.

Grillo solid in his 3M Open debut in 2020. He fired rounds of 71-68-64-65 to finish three off the pace in a tie for third place.

Grillo was seventh in the field in strokes gained tee to green (2.11) and was 4-for-4 in sand saves.

For the season, the 28-year-old ranks 45th in SG tee to green (.742) and is all the way up at 12th in SG approach (.711). Grillo’s short game tends to be his downfall, but at least TPC Twin Cities is not too tricky around the greens save for some bad lies in the rough.

Fortunately, Grillo is a green hitting machine. Especially if he’s playing from the short grass. Grillo is fifth on Tour in greens in regulation (71.53%) and second in proximity from the fairway (29’2″).

He’s not quite a secret at this point, but Grillo has been a favorite among DFS players for being good for an upper half finish on the leaderboard most weeks. I envision even better than that as he contends for his second straight top-10 in the Twin Cities.
