The FedEx Cup Playoffs are set to get under way with Lady Liberty having the best view in the house.

Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey, is the sight of the 2021 The Northern Trust, the first of three playoff events to cap the 2020-21 PGA Tour season.

Golf fans are plenty familiar with this venue that was established in 2006. Liberty National hosted the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs in 2009, 2013 and 2019, as well as the 2017 Presidents Cup.

The club cost more than $250 million to build, and has drawn mixed reviews by golf fanatics for its extravagence and architectural value.

It’s hard to beat the views of New York and the Statue of Liberty over the river, though.

The Bob Cupp/Tom Kite design measures 7,387 yards and plays to a par 71.

If the wind is up and conditions are firm, Liberty National can be a tough venue.

The course is rather exposed and does not have many trees. There are 90 bunkers and 10 water hazards that will punish a player for going too far off line.

The winning score was a modest 9-under in Heath Slocum’s surprise 2009 win, 11-under when Adam Scott sealed the deal in 2013 and 16-under for Patrick Reed’s 2019 trophy hoist.

It’s also a course where big hitters can be squeezed into taking less club off the tee on par-4s and par-5s, allowing for more playing styles to feel like they have a good chance.

The weather forecast projects possible mid-week rain/storms, but otherwise it looks pretty benign. Temperatures in the 60s-80s and wind topping out around 10 miles per hour appear in order.

There are 124 players in this week’s field. Louis Oosthuizen is the only one in the top 125 to skip The Northern Trust due to a neck injury that also led to a withdrawal at last week’s Wyndham Championship.

Oosthuizen has enough FedEx Cup points to be among the 70 to advance to the BMW Championship next week.

There are four times the amount of points available this week than in a standard PGA Tour event, so there’s opportunity for everyone to make a big jump.

Without further adieu, let’s dive into the top 10:
