There are a couple things I contend are true right now with Dustin Johnson. He’s far from playing the elite golf we’ve grown accustomed to seeing from one of the game’s best.

Also, he’s still piecing together results in his last six starts that most tour pros would take any day.

DJ is still seeking for his first win on any tour since he prevailed in Saudi Arabia in February. The trend line is improving of late with three top-10s and five top-25s since June.

Johnson is doing it against top competition with T-8th at The Open and T-10th his last event at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

The Coastal Carolina alum now arrives to a familiar venue in Liberty National. It’s a comfy one, too. Johnson debuted here in 2009 with T-15th (70-74-73-64) at The Barclays.

A missed cut at the 2013 The Barclays is the only blemish as he bounced back to go 4-0-1 (0-0-1 singles) for the victorious 2017 American Presidents Cup side and was T-24th (63-67-74-73) at the 2019 The Northern Trust.

“This golf course, you’ve got a great backdrop all day looking at (New York City),” Johnson was quoted by ASAP Sports in 2019. “This course suits my eye and I’ve always liked it since the first time I played it.”

The 37-year-old is inside the top 75 on the PGA Tour in all the main strokes gained categories to sit 19th in total SG (1.295). Johnson’s third in scoring average (69.564).
