2021 The Northern Trust: Top 10 power rankings at Liberty National
Nothing done in the FedEx Cup Playoffs will top the prestige of Xander Schauffele’s gold medal. The cash considerations are certainly a lot higher, though.
Schauffele knows that from personal experience when he took home a fat check for winning the Tour Championship in 2017. While his Olympics win did not net him any FedEx Cup points, he’s still in prime position to make it back to East Lake.
The 27-year-old’s near the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings thanks to his highly consistent play in the 2020-21 season. Schauffele owns just one missed cut in 2021 and was on a streak of five straight top-26s until a jet-lagged performance resulted in T-46th in his last start in Memphis.
He made the cut in three majors this year, including the Masters where he took T-3rd.
Schauffele arrives to Liberty National for the second time. He missed the cut at the 2019 The Northern Trust by just one shot with scores of 70-72.
The former San Diego State collegian ranks fifth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.659) and is 66th or better in each category.
With nearly 100 bunkers on site this week, sitting fifth in sand saves (62.07%) is valuable.
So is sitting third in putting from inside 10 feet (90.13%).
Schauffele is king of the limited field events. Four of his five PGA Tour victories came in such fashion, so it’d be no surprise if he vanquishes his 123 opponents this week in New Jersey.
