68. Robert Streb

Perhaps no player on Tour – certainly none on the cusp of the top 70 – owes his position so substantially to one tournament.

Robert Streb has 710 FedEx Cup points. He got 500 of them by beating Kevin Kisner in a playoff at the RSM last November.

I’ll do the math for you: 70 percent of Streb’s 2020-21 season is wrapped up in one tournament. Take away that RSM victory nine months ago and Streb falls from 68th in the FedEx Cup standings to 169th.

That probably makes Streb about as bad a bet as you can find to hold his place among the Top 70 advancers by week’s end. Here’s another way to come to the same conclusion. Since June 1, Streb has only added 70 FedEx Cup points to his resume. Among those in the 66 to 75 bracket, the next smallest number for that time period is 103.

Or you can judge Streb’s prospects by stroke average, which works out just as badly for him. For the 2020-21 season, Streb’s is 71.29. Among players in the 66-75 group, that’s second worst.

Streb has played a relatively light recent schedule, making only nine starts since May 1. Only one of those produced a top 20 finish, a tie for 19th at the Travelers. He’s missed four cuts in that period, including three of his four most recent starts.

The bottom line is that among players in position to survive their spot on the cusp, Streb is about as bad a bet as you can find to do so.
