73. Seamus Power

If you had to select one player to break into the top 70 and reach the BMW this week, it would be Power. It would be gilding the lily to describe him as hot…but he’s pretty warm.

The hitch in his recent record was his tie for 60th this past week at the Wyndham. Needing a strong finish to jump inside the top 70, Power instead cruised in neutral, holding at 73rd.

Aside from that, Power has as much recent juice as any Tour player who isn’t viewed as among the game’s elite. He won the Barbasol in a playoff with J.T. Poston, although nobody noticed because that tournament was played opposite the British Open.

One week earlier, he tied for eighth at the John Deere. One week before that, he tied for eighth at the Rocket Mortgage.

That meant that in July alone, Power accumulated 457.5 FedEx Cup points. Since he ended the regular season with 670 points, that three-week stretch one month ago represented two-thirds of his season-long success. It’s the reason he’s on the cusp of contention

Since June 27, Power has played 20 rounds on Tour. He’s been in the 60s for 16 of those 20 rounds, with nothing higher than 72. Prior to that t60 at the Wyndham, he had been top 20 in six consecutive starts.

If you are looking for somebody outside the top 60 to crack the top 60, Power has the credentials.
