During the final round of the 2021 Northern Trust, the PGA Tour announced that Patrick Reed was hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia.

As one of the most controversial players on the PGA Tour, Reed always seems to have more negative than positive love on the internet. While the situations he has been in warrant those to dislike him, right now, we all need to send the professional golfer good thoughts.

Reed withdrew for the second week in a row at the Northern Trust, citing an ankle injury, and now has to withdraw from the upcoming BMW Championship, but it’s understandable. While it doesn’t matter because being healthy is far more important than any golf tournament, his chances to be on the Ryder Cup team are likely completely done.

Pneumonia is nothing to play with, and hopefully, it’ll be a quick recovery for Reed. However,  despite anyone’s feelings about him, let’s keep those negative thoughts to a minimum. There is honestly no reason to be happy that he is sick or hospitalized.

Reed has a wife and two children who love him dearly, who could use the kind words. Not to mention it would be pretty tacky to talk junk about him while he’s in the hospital. I’m not assuming people will, but it’s evident that he isn’t a fan-favorite on Tour.

The world continues to struggle with the pandemic, and so many people are getting sick left and right, so seeing one of the top players come down with pneumonia is slightly scary. It just shows us all that we’re human, and anything could happen at the most random time.

So while Reed recovers in Houston, send him good vibes and happy thoughts. Show him that even if he isn’t your favorite player, you want to see him healthy and on the course again. Even if he’s controversial, we all know he has serious game and can compete with the best.
