2021 BMW Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Caves Valley
Harris English’s breakneck pace over the previous month cooled at The Northern Trust. But only a little.
A T-31st (69-68-70-69) at Liberty National only dropped him four spots down to eighth. The former Georgia Bulldog is still a lock to make it to Atlanta next week and is on the cusp of qualifying for his first Ryder Cup.
Both are the case in large part to a string of tournaments where English finished third (U.S. Open), first (Travelers Championship) and solo fourth (WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational).
Remember the two minutes we all thought English might win the U.S. Open? That was fun. It wasn’t as fun as seeing the three-and-a-half days we thought English was going to win in Memphis, only for slow play warnings and errant shots to derail things.
I’m not going to hold that Sunday collapse against him too much. Playing with Bryson carries with it extra drama different than any other competitor.
English is also a winner at the Tournament of Champions to open 2021.
He was 12th in the field last week in strokes gained putting (4.351 total), which is no surprise for a guy who’s 11th on the PGA Tour this season in that department (.59 per round).
English is ninth in birdie average (4.32) and 10th in total driving (125 combined distance/fairway accuracy ranks)
As long as English’s head isn’t spinning too much from his double bogey-birdie-bogey-eagle-par finish on Monday, I like him to improve at the BMW Championship.
