After winning The Northern Trust and posting a respectable T-15th last week at the BMW Championship, Finau is in prime position to hoist the FedEx Cup.

He’s just two shots off pacesetter Patrick Cantlay and holds an advantage over the rest of the field.

Finau arrives at East Lake for the fifth time. He’s never finished outside the top half of the leaderboard and rose to seventh place both on the official net leaderboard and unofficial (except for world ranking points) gross leaderboard in 2019.

He’s officially on the American Ryder Cup team as an automatic qualifier, so that’s one less thing for Finau to worry about.

The 31-year-old ranks 16th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.266). He’s known for his power and sits 28th in SG off the tee (.333). Finau’s best SG category, though, is around the green where he’s 15th (.313).

Even with a scaled back driver swing to promote more accuracy, Finau is still 35th in club head speed (118.72 MPH) and has plenty in the reserves when he needs to summon it.

Finau posted rounds of 65 and 66 last year at the Tour Championship en route to 17th on the net leaderboard and T-14th gross.

The Utahan looked a little gassed midway through the BMW Championship last week before turning it on on Sunday. Finau’s 9-under was the low round of the day by two.

“Yeah, my putting. I have the most confidence I’ve had with it, but yeah, I’ve done a lot of work on it,” Finau was quoted by ASAP Sports after the BMW Championship. “No secret that I’ve messed around with putting grips, but the combination of having this new Ping putter that I have and the hard work, it’s starting to show some fruits, which is great.”
