Abraham Ancer’s 2020-21 PGA Tour season was the best campaign of his career by far, even if he were to go out and fire four rounds in the 80s this week.

I fully don’t expect that to happen.

Ancer not only broke through for his first win at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, but a top-10 last week at the BMW Championship has him in position to potentially win the Tour Championship.

He has six shots to erase off Patrick Cantlay’s lead, but only four other players start in better position than Ancer.

The former Oklahoma Sooner’s illustrious season also includes solo second at the Wells Fargo Championship behind Quail Hollow stalwart Rory McIlroy. Ancer also grabbed solo fourth at the Travelers Championship and has missed just one cut in the U.S. since February.

The 30-year-old is making his third appearance at East Lake. He’s in prime position to post his best FedEx Cup final result after earning T-21st (T-26th gross) in 2019 and T-18th (T-14th gross) in 2020.

Ancer was one of five players to share the low round of the 2020 Tour Championship when he opened with a 6-under-par 64.

Ancer is among the elite with a sub-70 scoring average on the PGA Tour in 2020-21, sitting 13th at 69.949. He’s also sixth in driving accuracy (71.11%), an important stat to watch at East Lake.

Ancer is also one of the best iron players at 25th in strokes gained approach (.494) and can roll the rock (29th SG putting, .425).
