Marc Leishman’s last trip to Silverado was a prosperous one. In just his second tournament appearance, the big Aussie fired 70-72-67-65 to finish just three shots off the pace.

This came five years after debuting at this venue with a T-46th finish.

Leishman has been a bit off and on in 2021. He has nearly as many top-fives (three) as missed cuts (four). Leishman earned T-5th at the Masters and more recently was solo third at the Travelers Championship.

The 37-year-old advanced to the BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He arrives to the Fortinet Championship on a run of four made cuts in his last five tries.

Leishman finished the 2020-21 PGA Tour season ranked 11th in sand saves (60%).

Fairways aren’t a layup to hit at Silverado. If he can find them, Leishman will be tough to beat at 35th in approach proximity from the fairway (30’10”).

He was also second in proximity from 200-225 yards (33’2”).

Leishman has played just 19 times in 2021, many of which came in tournaments with strong fields. Not often do you see him get opportunities to capitalize without having to contend with the big names.

Leishman’s recent form isn’t awe-inspiring, but it’s good enough to where he could put it all together this week and grab his fifth win since 2017.

If he’s in the mix entering Sunday, don’t expect him to tumble down the leaderboard. Leish was 21st in 2020-21 in final round performance. He maintained or improved his 54-hole position 70.59% of the time.
